Danger Danger "Danger Danger" Imagine 1989 Are there any young bands left trying to create anthemic stadium-sized pop metal? If so, take note: "Bang Bang" is the standard against which all rock anthems should be measured. Danger Danger aren't just a one-hit wonder either: with the likes of "Rock America" and "Feels Like Love" they take the keyboard-drenched pop rock of '80s Bon Jovi and make it entirely their own, giving Jovi something to think about in the process. Power ballads? Step this way, sir: "One Step From Paradise" is almost to ballads what "Bang Bang" is to anthems and if life were fair then these two hit singles would have turned D2 into multi-platinum megastars. It's not that the album is all that original (how many classic albums are truly original?) but it's in the quality of execution that Danger Danger shine. When they get it right, no one does it better. On their debut, they don't hit their peak that often, but when they do, the effect is inspiring. "Naughty Naughty" narrowly missed hit status and bassist Bruno Ravel felt the smooth pop of "Don't Walk Away" could have been the hit to break the album, had it been released. There's no question that better-known bands from the time and since have been less deserving of success than Danger Danger, as this atmospheric debut demonstrates. [7]
