EVE6 "Horrorscope" RCA 2000 A while ago I decided that since I quite like a lot of modern rock stuff I should really start buying some of it, so I started with this. I don't know why, exactly. They've had no success here in the UK and I'd only heard one song, but I decided to take a chance on it. Well, it's alright. Unlike a lot of current pop-rock bands, not every song is the same tempo, so this album has some variety to set it apart, along with some loops and keyboards, which you may or may not like. Lyrically, there are actually some clever twists and uses of wordplay but the subject matter is often pretty banal and some of the lyrics just suck. Track wise, well, "Promise" was the big anthem that I bought the album for, and there are many other catchy moments, but something about the album just doesn't sit right with me. Maybe it's that I can't stand Max Collins' voice, or maybe it's that some of the songs are a bit weak (the most disappointing is "Nocturnal", which I like until the chorus). Still, there are a lot of likeable songs on this album in all. You might have noticed that this review is not written in a very professional or journalistic style. That's because I can't really attempt to pass myself off as an expert on this style; I just know what I like, and this isn't quite it. I'm keeping the CD for the songs I like though. [5]
