Ratt "Ratt & Roll 8191" Atlantic 1991 Those with even a passing interest in the '80s LA rock scene know that Ratt were at the forefront of it throughout its brief reign. As a result, this compilation is essential for anyone who cares at all about LA metal. Ratt diehards will be lured in by two songs from Ratt's hard-to-find debut EP included here, as well as "Nobody Rides for Free", taken from the "Point Break" movie soundtrack. For everyone else, it's the volume of classics on offer here that provide the lure. The songs included are the hit singles, so casual fans will find all their favourites here. The sleaze and groove of Ratt & Roll and the bad attitude are what make it great. "Lay It Down", "Slip of the Lip", and "Way Cool Jr." are what Aerosmith would sound like if they'd been an LA glam band. Ratt had their own identity in the '80s, but fans of Motley Crue, Skid Row, and Guns n' Roses who haven't checked out Ratt are missing out on a good thing. At the other end of Ratt's spectrum is storming party rock, with "I Want a Woman", "Dance", and "Round and Round" keeping the energy as sky high as it should be from a rock band. A comprehensive overview of what made Ratt deservedly famous. [8]
