Stryper "Can't Stop the Rock" Hollywood 1991 Tellingly, this is not "Greatest Hits" or even "Best Of", but is merely subtitled "The Collection 1984-1991". Clearly new label Hollywood had little interest in the band, releasing a best of for no apparent reason, although as it happens it would be the band's last release. Anyway, it's a good thing they didn't call this the Best Of Stryper because it isn't. It's got a lot of good songs though. Diehards will want to get it for "Believe", a stirring pop song written with the Gulf War in mind but with poignance in all war situations. "Can't Stop the Rock" is a fairly cheesy boogie-metal song with lyrics taken from Stryper hits in a bid to prove to their fans that they hadn't betrayed their roots with "Against the Law". Such hits as "Always There For You", "Honestly", and "Free" are included, although "Calling On You" is inexplicably omitted. The best of Stryper? Nope, two new songs and ten randomly selected catalogue numbers, but not bad for casual Stryper fans, if such a thing exists.
